The Vietnam War (1955-1975)

Overview

The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War and the Resistance War Against America (or simply the American War in Vietnam), was a protracted conflict spanning from November 1, 1955, to the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. The war involved Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Officially, the war was fought between North Vietnam (supported by the Soviet Union, China, and other communist allies) and South Vietnam (backed by the United States, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, and other anti-communist allies). Often considered a Cold War-era proxy war, the conflict lasted 19 years, with direct U.S. involvement concluding in 1973. The war resulted in the communist takeover of all three countries... Neuron Structure and Function

The basic unit of structure and function in the nervous system is called the neuron, or nerve cell. Neurons (NYOO-rons) conduct impulses throughout the nervous system. As shown below, a neuron is a long cell that consists of three regions:

  • Cell body
  • Dendrites (DEN-drites) are branchlike extensions of the neuron that receive impulses and carry them toward the cell body.
  • Axon is an extension of the neuron. It carries impulses away from the cell body and toward other neurons, muscles, or glands.

Neurons fall into three categories: sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons.

  • Sensory neurons carry impulses from the body to the spinal cord and brain.
  • Interneurons are found within the brain and spinal cord. They process

Hospital Departments & Nursing Insights

My mother always dreamed of working in a hospital, specifically in the *Accident and Emergency (A&E)* department. This is where patients arrive and are admitted for urgent care.

From my perspective, the ground floor is often where the most critical activities unfold, housing not only A&E but also the *operating theatres* and *delivery rooms*. Once, during her time as a nursing student, she had to attend to an elderly person who had suffered a *myocardial infarction* (heart attack). Industrial Revolution

Several influences fueled the Industrial Revolution: Britain's industry, wealth, labor force, a greater demand for goods, new power sources, and improved transportation.

Increased food production made it possible to feed a large population. This created an opportunity to manufacture and sell goods, and a demand for people to produce those goods.

Machines were invented for basic jobs, which introduced the idea of division of labor. One invention led to another. Other countries bought British uniforms, equipment, and weapons, particularly after the invention of a cloth-making machine. Ultimately, Britain was exporting all of this to Europe.

Workers' Rights

Workers tried to join together to protect themselves against powerful... Continue reading "The Impact of Revolutions and the Evolution of English" »
