Philosophy vs science
Science is the study and understanding of natural or social phenomena. It is concerned with empirical data. Data: all that can be observed, tested and repeated. There is an specific course of action called scientific method. Science start out as a part of philosophy and was called natural philosophy, but science deviated from philosophy in the 17th century, When speaking about science we tend to think on natural science,the social and the formal sciences to make into account. Scientific disciplines are classified in two main groups : formal and empirical sciences. Formal sciences are a branch of science studying formal languages disciplines, The formal sciences are language tools concerned with characterizing abstract structures described by symbolic systems. The formal sciences aid the natural and social sciences by providing information about the structures the latter use to describe the world, and what inferences may be made about them.
Empirical sciences divided in natural and social sciences characterize physical and social system, respectively, using empirical methods. And empirical method involves the use of objective, quantitative observation in a systematically controlled, replicable situation, in order to test or refine a theory. Natural science is a branch of science concerned with the description, prediction and understanding of natural phenomena, based on empirical evidence from observation and experimentation. Hypothetical-deductive method we already know for it is the meanly used method in natural sciences Social science begins in the Age of Enlightenment which saw a revolution within natural philosophy changing the basic framework to understand what science is. Social science is a category of academic disciplines concerned with society, and the relationships among individuals within a society. The social sciences includes different branches such as anthropology, archaeology…. In short the social sciences consists of the scientific study of the human aspects of the world.
