With Nearly all of Burtons films having the effects of shadows, long drawn elements, Harsh contrasts, and black and white used a lot in his films, is definitely Seen how he is being deeply influenced by Gothic Art and German Expressionism. The dark elements evoke the feeling of horror with out actually showing something Horrific. This can be seen in Vincent. The use of black and white, the Music, the dramatic change of the shadows, the contrast with each scene and Also how the main character ‘Vincent’ runs into the influence of Vincent Price By getting drawn into his dark fantasy world which immediately hit the Depressive and ‘scary’ emotion. Burton use continuous themes repetitive Throughout every one of them; Burton’s key is the mix of imaginative and the World of reality. As an example one of his famous films Big Fish, used this Theme reality/imagination when Edward Bloom tells his extraordinary stories With fully details that becomes unrealistic. But later on, through the film we Discover that all these stories that the character has been telling have a real Origin, Bloom prefers to tell an exiting story than just a simple boring story. Tim burton identifies his work along with his style in a unique world that Audience and he would connect to. Burton used the element of chiarouscuro a lot In his films, showing the contrast of light and dark features. For example, in Vincent, the lighting effect separates the reality that he’s in into his dark Imagination by using exaggerate shadows and dark places to show the realistic Scenes and how they are different to the imagination scenes. But compare to Big Fish is the completely opposite of darkness, Tim burton uses oversaturated Light when Bloom is telling his stories. The use of lighting is to show the Separation between reality and imagination as well.

Every character in each film has been separated or Isolated from the others throughout the films each with their own reason and he Uses this commonly, because he mostly relates his films with himself and this Is related to his childhood where he mostly spent it alone/isolated rather than Socializing or looking for some sort of creation. Through Each story we can see his characters bring life to the film, not only because Burton uses mostly the same main characters in all of his films e.G Johny Deep, Helena Bonham Carter but also because each actor plays Burton’s characters in a Unique way that fits in to the film. The characters are also mixed with the Magical reality that helps to show how every character is an outsider compare To the others, for example, in Alice in Wonderland shows how Alice did not want To be part of the stereotypical woman that has to be married with a Lord, she Wanted it to be an explorer and work in her dad’s business company. At first She feels insecure when her family and the others where expecting her to Finally get married with a Self- respected man but thought the film where she falls In to the tree and explores the world of Wonderland, it shows how Alice founds Her ambition of being more than a stereotypical woman
