Modern Art: From Neo-Pop to Happenings

Classified in Arts and Humanities

Neo-Pop Art and its Influence

54 artists transitioned from Neo-Pop Art and Dadaism, influenced by figures like Duchamp and Robert Rauschenberg. Jasper Johns treated painting as an object, incorporating everyday elements and neutralizing paint over his increasingly pictorial speech. This converted the final result into a simple presentation of things, emphasizing the materialization of an idea over the action of painting.

Characteristics of Neo-Pop Art

  • Rejection of abstract expressionism
  • Use of realistic, figurative language
  • Reflection of contemporary ideas and appearances
  • Thematic focus on the urban environment, social and cultural aspects of comics, magazines, newspapers, and photos
  • Absence of critical approaches
  • Nontraditional pictorial treatment
  • Fusion

Wave Motion

Wave motion refers to the transmission of a disturbance from one point to another without the net transport of matter.

Wave Classification

  • One-dimensional waves: Propagate in a single direction.
  • Two-dimensional waves: Propagate in two directions.
  • Three-dimensional waves: Propagate in three directions.

Based on Medium of Propagation

  • Mechanical waves: Require a material medium for propagation. Their speed depends on the characteristics of the medium.
  • Electromagnetic waves: Do not require a material medium and can propagate in a vacuum (e.g., visible light).

Based on Direction of Disturbance

Spanish Countryside in the 20th Century: Inequality and Reform

Classified in Geography

Written at on English with a size of 1.69 KB.

The Problems of the Spanish Countryside

The Spanish countryside in the 20th century was marked by unequal land ownership. Large estates coexisted with smallholdings, impacting agricultural yields and hindering modernization. Landowners of large estates displayed risk aversion and limited interest in efficient cultivation, leaving the rural population near subsistence. This disparity in living conditions fueled social conflict and peasant protests, often exacerbated by poor harvests and food shortages. As farmers organized, they demanded land reform to access and cultivate underutilized land held by absentee owners.

In regions like Galicia, smallholdings, while producing high-quality crops, struggled with limited land, hindering profitability... Continue reading "Spanish Countryside in the 20th Century: Inequality and Reform" »

Protective Tissues

Epidermal Tissue

This outermost layer covers roots, herbaceous stems, and leaves. It consists of a single layer of living cells without chlorophyll, tightly arranged without spaces. The outer cell wall is covered with a cuticle, a waterproof layer made of cutin and waxes. In aerial parts, the epidermis protects stems and leaves, regulates perspiration, and facilitates gas exchange. In roots, it protects and aids water and salt absorption through root hairs. Trichomes, also present in the epidermis, provide additional protection.

Cork Tissue (Suber)

This tissue replaces the epidermal tissue in older plant parts. It comprises multiple layers of dead cells coated with suberin, making it highly waterproof. Due to cell activity, the... Continue reading "Plant Tissues and Their Functions" »
