1. Book Review: Don Quixote

If you are a fan of classic stories, you will love Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. It is one of the most famous books in Spanish literature and it quickly catches the reader’s attention.

The novel tells the story of Don Quixote, a man who believes he is a knight, and his loyal friend Sancho Panza. Together, they live many funny and surprising adventures.

I really enjoyed this book because it is both entertaining and meaningful. What I liked most was the humour of the story. For example, the scene where Don Quixote fights the windmills is unforgettable. However, one drawback is that some parts are long and difficult to understand.

To sum up, I would highly recommend it because it is fascinating and full of memorable... Continue reading "Top Recommendations: Italian Dining, Music Festivals, and Classic Literature" »

Consolidation of the Monarchy

From the 12th century onwards, the power of monarchs was strengthened and their territories were expanded. As the economy improved, kings and queens collected more wealth through increased taxes. Thanks to this revenue, they established standing troops and ensured the obedience of feudal lords through force or strategic agreements. (Not included) To solidify the administration of the kingdom, monarchs utilized experts and lawyers trained in Roman Law at the most important universities. These legal experts promoted the idea that monarchs held greater authority than traditional law allowed, as they provided more power to the queens and kings. This legal framework combined elements of traditional Roman and Germanic... Continue reading "Rise of Monarchies and Medieval Parliaments" »

The Arrival of the Ducklings

Like every summer, Mother Duck sat on her nest. All the barnyard friends wanted to see her ducklings, which were always the most handsome of all. The day came when the ducks began to open the eggs little by little, and everyone gathered at the nest to see them first.

The Last Egg Hatches

One by one, six precious ducklings came out, each accompanied by shouts of joy from Mother Duck and her friends. They were so happy that it took a while to realize that one egg, the largest of the seven, had not yet opened.

All turned their attention to the egg that remained intact, including the newborn ducklings, waiting to see some sign of movement. Soon, the egg began to break, and out came a smiling duck. He was bigger than his... Continue reading "The Ugly Duckling: A Classic Tale of Transformation" »

Heterotrophs and Nutrition

Heterotrophs are living beings which feed on organic matter produced by other living things. They transform this matter to obtain nutrients and energy.

The Process of Digestion

  1. Ingestion: The intake of food into the body through the mouth.
  2. Digestion: The transformation of food into nutrients which the body can absorb. There are two types:
    • Intracellular digestion: Takes place inside the cells of single and primitive multicellular organisms.
    • Extracellular digestion: Takes place inside the digestive tube and not in individual cells.
The transformation of food is both mechanical and chemical.
  3. Absorption: The passage of nutrients from the digestive system into the blood. The blood carries the nutrients to the cells.

Historical and Cultural Framework

In politics, the absolute dominion of kings culminated. The Jesuits were expelled from the society. During this time, there was a growing urban bourgeoisie, both commercial and industrial. These groups lacked privilege and generally supported reforms. The traditional concept of charity was replaced by philanthropy.

There was significant criticism of the Church and its dogmas. Some defended their ideas from a Christian perspective, while others turned to deism (the belief in a supreme being that can exist in any religion). The most radical thinkers evolved toward materialism and atheism.

Cultural knowledge was fundamentally based on philosophy and science. The learned advocated that the arts should become a vehicle... Continue reading "18th-Century Literature and the Age of Enlightenment" »

I. The Nature of Text and Semiotics

  • The Origin of "Text": The word originates from the Latin textus, meaning texture or textile.
  • Broad Definition: A text is any passage, spoken or written, that forms a unified whole. Crucially, even an object like a shoe can be considered a text within its communicative context.
  • Sign Systems: Language is a semiotic sign. Meaning in symbolic signs is attained through connotation (inference/associated meanings) rather than simple denotation.
  • The Necessity of Context: Text analysis must always consider culture and context, as social meanings depend heavily on these factors.

II. The Hierarchy of Linguistic Analysis

To analyze the relationship between form and meaning, you must use all layers of the language system. Memorize... Continue reading "Textual Analysis: Semiotics, Linguistics, and Intertextuality" »

The Ordinary Process of Constitutional Reform

The ordinary process of reform (Article 167 EC) consists of different variants. In its basic form (Article 167.1 EC), the reform project—which is strictly speaking from the Government, or a proposition from the Congress or Senate—must be approved by a majority of three-fifths (3/5) of each of the Chambers. This majority is calculated in relation to the total number of its members de jure, a parliamentary practice that applies to those who have acquired the full status of Deputies or Senators respectively.

The Constitution provides for the possibility that the two Houses disagree on the text adopted by each of them. If there is any difference in the text approved by the Senate with respect to the... Continue reading "Spanish Constitutional Reform Procedures: Articles 167 and 168" »
