Liz: I'm looking for an outfit. Can you help me?

Yoko: Well, you usually wear something comfortable like jeans and a T-shirt. What's wrong with that?

Liz: I don't like to wear jeans all the time. I want to wear something different—I mean, special.

Yoko: Really? Why?

Liz: Okay, fine.

Yoko: I like it! You look wonderful.

Liz: Yeah, but it's very dressy and these high heels are so uncomfortable.

Yoko: You look great in those shoes. Um, you know...

Top Inventions: How E-books, Mobiles, and TV Changed Life

English2.29 KB

The Rise of E-books and Digital Reading

Recently, companies have started selling electronic books, or e-books, which can be read on small computers called e-book readers. In my opinion, e-books are better than paper books. Paper books aren't convenient; they're heavy, and in addition, they need a lot of space. On the other hand, hundreds of e-books can be stored on one e-book reader.

Also, you can buy e-books at any time from a computer or straight from the e-book reader. But e-books are not just convenient; they also help the environment because they don't use paper. Not everyone likes e-books. Some people enjoy the smell and the touch of paper. But not everyone liked the car when it was first invented. That didn't stop it from becoming popular.

Modernism and Late Victorian Literature: Conrad, Kipling, and Hardy

English2.72 KB

The Dawn of the Modern Age

The late Victorian era was marked by the decline of traditional Victorianism, characterized by agricultural and industrial depression and a profound crisis of faith triggered by Darwin's On the Origin of Species. This period saw a rebellion against Victorian morality, challenging hypocrisy and earnestness while embracing new perspectives on sexuality and the aesthetic movement of Art for Art's Sake.

Essential English Grammar Concepts: Morphemes, Verbs, and Syntax

English3.04 KB

Morphemes: Derivational vs. Inflectional

The main difference between the two is that derivational affixes are added to morphemes to form new words that may or may not be the same part of speech, while inflectional affixes are added to the end of an existing word for purely grammatical reasons. Derivational morphemes are those added to existing words to create new words with different meanings.

Free and Bound Morphemes

Free morphemes can occur alone, whereas bound morphemes must occur with another morpheme. In the word badly, the free morpheme is bad, and the bound morpheme is -ly. It is bound because, although it has meaning, it cannot stand alone; it must be attached to another morpheme to produce a word.
