Warsaw Pact

The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance created by the USSR and the people democracies in Eastern Europe to defend themselves from the capitalist bloc. The GDR was a new style created in the part controlled by the USSR in the German territory. It was created in 1949 and existed until 1990 when the two German reunified. It was a single party with a planned economy.

United Nations

The United Nations was an organization created on June 20th, 1945, in the conference of San Francisco to replace the League of Nations. Its main objectives initially were maintaining peace worldwide, promoting international cooperation, respecting human rights, and promoting the self-determination of colonies.

Normandy Landing

The Normandy Landing was the arrival of the allied troops in Western Europe on June 6th, 1944. It was carried out by soldiers from the USA, UK, France, and Canada. It was successful and marked the beginning of the reconquest of Western Europe. Without it, Western Europe would likely be under Nazi or Soviet control. The allies continued advancing and finally occupied Berlin, together with the Soviet Union troops. The war finished in May 1945.

Revolution of 1905

The Revolution of 1905 was an internal revolt in the Russian Empire in 1905 which started due to the Russian defeats in the Russo-Japanese war.

Soviets

Soviets were councils of workers, peasants, and soldiers formed spontaneously during the Russian Revolution of 1905. The final result was the victory of Tsarism, but the Tsar had to concede a parliament and the first Russian Constitution.

February Revolution of 1917

The February Revolution of 1917 was the first phase of an internal revolt in the Russian Empire in 1917. It started due to some Russian defeats in WWI. The consequences of this revolution were the conversion of Russia into a republic and the formation of a provisional government that wanted to maintain private property and continue the WWI.

October Revolution of 1917

The October Revolution of 1917 was the second phase of an internal revolt in Russia in 1917. It was performed by the Bolsheviks led by Lenin. Despite the Bolsheviks calling it a revolution, it was really a coup and it finished with the Russian Republic to create a communist regime.
