Pedagogical Autonomy of Schools

Pedagogical autonomy gives schools the freedom to develop, adopt, and implement an educational project, a management project, and the rules of organization and functioning. Educational authorities promote the autonomy of institutions so that their economic resources and personnel can accommodate the work plans and organization they develop, once they are properly evaluated and appraised.

In the exercise of their autonomy, centers may undertake experimentation, work plans, and organizational forms of school expansion under the terms established by educational authorities. However, they must not, under any circumstances, impose financial contributions on families or extra demands on educational administrations. When these experiments, work plans, or organizational forms affect the granting of academic or professional credentials, they must be expressly authorized by the Government.

This project aims precisely to organize specific work plans in the center with action principles very similar to those imposed by law. Under the autonomy granted to schools by the LOE, and to fulfill their educational projects, public schools may formulate requirements for certification and professional training for certain jobs in the center. The LEA project also asserts that the director may apply specific staff requirements to the center.

To achieve innovative educational projects, the project seeks to promote the self-assessment of schools. It aims to ensure this assessment is conducted steadily, as self-assessment is an essential part of this process. The project also aims to encourage LEA self-evaluation, shared with monitoring and external support.

Features and Functions of Management Teams

Management teams are those formed by all teachers and professors who teach the same group of students. Their key features and functions include:

  • Shared Educational Responsibility: All members of the educational team work to educate the same students within their respective areas. Consequently, they share the same duties, obligations, and moral education responsibilities toward these learners.
  • Coordinated Prevention and Support: Coordinated by the appropriate tutor, the management team works together to prevent learning or cohabitation problems that might arise. They share all necessary information to work in a coordinated way in fulfilling their educational functions.
