Journalism and Broadcasting
- Stringer: A freelance journalist.
- Shortlist: A list chosen from a longer list.
- Scoop: A story that one broadcaster (or newspaper, etc.) manages to get as an exclusive. This can often lead to a sharp rise in audience figures, as there is only one source of this information.
- Slot: A section in a radio or TV program which has a time allocated to it in a schedule.
Studio and Film Production
- Studio Manager: Ensures that the studio is organized in terms of bookings, equipment, and administration. They are often involved in the business side of the operations, making sure that they keep existing clients satisfied and attract new business to the studio.
- Set: An indoor location where the film is recorded.
Business and Finance
- Shares: Equal parts of the division of ownership of a corporation.
- Stock Market: A system for buying and selling shares of companies.
Technology and Internet
- Streaming: A method of sending audio and video files over the Internet in such a way that the user can view the file while it is being transferred.
- Speech Recognition: A technology that allows you to communicate with a computer by using only your voice to enter data and to issue commands.
- Speech Synthesis: Also called text-to-speech. Technology that allows computers to produce sounds similar to the human voice.
- Spoken Tutorial: An explanation of a concrete term so it would be easier for the student to understand the process or the meaning.
- Scope: The extension; what you are going to cover, which aspects you are going to write about. Aspects you want to approach.
- Viral Marketing: A technique that uses established social networks to promote a product.
- Video on Demand: Television channels that allow consumers to order movies, news, or other programs at any time over fiber-optic lines.
- Video: A system of filming, processing, and showing moving pictures.
- Video Console: A device that allows you to play video games. Some examples are Nintendo, PlayStation, etc.
- Virtual Reality: A computer environment used by doctors to simulate a particular situation.

- Shelter: Something beneath, behind, or within which one is protected, as from storms, cold, danger, etc.
