Tennis Rules and Fundamentals

Court Marks and Dimensions

The tennis court includes the net, sideline, baseline, center mark, double sideline, and centerline.

Scoring System

The scoring sequence is as follows: 15 (first point), 30 (second point), 40 (third point), and game (fourth point). If the game is tied at 40-40, it is known as a deuce; in this case, the game continues until one player wins by a two-point lead. A point is awarded when the ball touches the ground in the opponent's area and they fail to return it.

Tie-Break and Sets

A player or team needs to win 6 games to win a set. If the score reaches 5-5, a player must win the next two games to win the set.

The Server

The server (saque) is allowed two serves, which are repeated if the ball goes out or touches the net (a let). The player must stand behind the baseline and bounce the ball into the opponent's field diagonally.

Racket Parts

  • Strings (reixes)
  • Beam (negre)
  • Sweet spot (dibuix)
  • Open throat (forat)
  • Butt cap (final)
  • Head, shaft, and grip

Skills and Techniques

Essential skills include the forehand, backhand, serve, smash, drop shot, and volley.

Forehand groundstroke: This occurs when you pass the ball with your arm open and moving forward, as if you were throwing from your back to the front.

Judo: The Gentle Way

The term Ju emphasizes flexibility and efficiency, while Do means "way." Judo was born in Japan in 1882, founded by Kanō Jigorō.

Scoring System

  • Ippon: 10 points
  • Waza-ari: 7 points
  • Yuko: 5 points

A competitor has 15 to 20 seconds to immobilize their rival. Penalties include Hansoku-make and Shido.

Skills and Uniform

Key skills include throwing, grappling, and breakfall. Examples include Ashi barai, Uchi mata, and Koshi-waza.

The uniform consists of the Judogi and Judo belt. Matches take place on a Tatami inside a Dojo.

Marks and Dimensions

The safety area contains timers, scorers, and a scoreboard. The contest area features a blue competitor and a white competitor, typically measuring 14-16m x 14-16m.

Categories and Levels

Categories are classified by weight and age, while levels are distinguished by the color of the judo belt.

Prohibited Actions and Match Start

It is prohibited to grab hair, touch eyes, grab the legs in certain competitions, or lock the joints. A Judo match starts with a salutation and begins when the referee says "Hajime" (Atime).
