The Essence of Writing

Writing is the act of communicating through text. When we write, we pour our ideas into words, recording our concepts using a specific key or code known as written language.

Elements of Communication

• The Sender: The person who wants to convey specific information.
• The Receiver: The recipient of the message or the information being conducted.
• The Message: The set of ideas to be conveyed.
• The Channel: The physical environment or medium that serves as a vehicle for information.
• The Code: The system of signs or signals familiar to both the sender and the receiver. This includes linguistic codes (oral or written) and non-linguistic codes (visual, auditory, or gestural).

Practical Exercise

Consider a street poster notifying the public about road repairs. Who is the sender? The sender is the mayor or the institution responsible for delivering this information.

The Communication Process

Communication is a complete process; if any of these elements are missing, successful communication cannot be achieved. Nothing can be omitted.

Barriers to Effective Communication

There are various barriers to information. For example, a language barrier occurs when parties do not share the same language, making it impossible to establish effective communication. When traveling to a country where you do not speak the language, you encounter a barrier that hinders interaction, necessitating the use of alternative tools. Therefore, a common code is essential.

Context and Medium

The environment or context is crucial and must align with the communication taking place. While the most common form of communication is oral, proper punctuation is vital to convey the exact meaning intended by the author.
