Being a Slave for Christ

Being a slave for Christ means acting in a way that models His way of life, Catholic beliefs, and doing good. This helps one attain eternal life and avoid sinful things such as addiction that only lead to evil. This way of life leads not to heaven but to spiritual death, severing one's connection with God.

Paul's Teachings

Paul is talking about the paradox of the cross and how foolishness is strength and wisdom is weakness. He discusses various groups like the Jews and the Greeks who demand signs and wisdom to believe in Jesus and God. Paul also explains how the foolishness of God is stranger than the wisdom of humans and the weakness of God is strong.

Marriage and Unmarried Life

In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul talks about the married and the unmarried and how each way of life is not wrong. Those who are married are creating children and fostering a relationship with God, while those who are unmarried, widows, or virgins don't necessarily need to focus on getting married as those things can distract us from our relationship with God, prayer, seeking forgiveness, and preparing for the second coming of Jesus Christ. This ideal still applies today because sometimes our desires or pursuit of something we want distract us from what is really important in our lives.

Examples of Concerns

Paul addresses drinking and having sex because it can lead to us being slaves of sin. Addictive lifestyles in our society can change our whole way of life.

Expressing Love and Patience

When Paul talks about love, being patient, and kind, he is trying to express that God is love and thus God is also many other great things such as being patient and kind. By comparing love to God, Paul explains how we love God through these descriptors to make Him tangible so that us humans can understand Him, relate to Him, and model our lives after Him.

Importance of Language in Evangelism

In Corinthians 14, when Paul expresses the importance of language and conversations regarding speaking in 'tongues' and about divine insight, he explains the importance of evangelizing correctly. People should not be speaking gibberish or incoherent in whatever language they speak. Those who are evangelizing should speak coherently and with purpose and good intention.
