Journalistic Language: Key Principles

Journalistic language should always be concise, precise, and clear. Avoid excessive adjectives, long sentences, and overloaded paragraphs. A standard register is commonly used. It is important to create a narrative of current events written with the intention of informing in an objective way. The content of a story should usually answer the questions: who, what, when, where, how, and why.

Structure of a News Story

  • Headline: Captures the reader's attention with the most important and powerful data.
  • Subheading: Develops the ideas contained in the headline.
  • Body: Presents the facts in descending order of importance.

Journalistic Genres

  • Chronicle: A story about recent events, often told in chronological order by a reporter who outlines the circumstances and provides an assessment and interpretation.
  • Reportage: A widely reported account of news events or matters of interest that are not always tied to current events. This genre is widely used in magazines. The text is usually accompanied by photos and graphics. The story includes an explanation of its causes and consequences, as well as the opinions and statements of witnesses and protagonists.

Irregular Verbs: Understanding the Variations

Irregular verbs diverge from the patterns of regular verbs. There are several types of irregularities, which can affect both the lexeme and the endings.

Velarization

Velarization is a type of irregularity that involves the emergence of a velar consonant (c or g) at the end of the lexeme.
