Industrial activities can cause two types of injuries:

  • Occupational Diseases: These often appear due to the aggressions to which the worker is exposed while performing work; for example, due to prolonged exposure to certain substances.
  • Workplace Accidents: These may result from contingencies. Most cases are preventable and often occur because safety measures have not been complied with.

The environmental impact is the alteration that occurs in the environment when a project is carried out, such as the construction of a road or the manufacturing of a product. The land is finite; the growth of any physical object, including the human population and its products, cannot continue indefinitely due to the planet's limited capacity to provide energy and materials.

Handmade Construction and Artisan Workshops

This type of construction is carried out by artisans in small workshops. In the classroom workshop, work is held in these ways:

  • Without tools: i.e., using only the hands.
  • With hand tools: such as scissors, saws, or files.
  • Machined with hand tools: such as an electric drill.

Properties and Classification of Metallic Materials

Metallic materials are obtained from minerals containing metal or other materials through alloys. Their primary characteristics include:

  • They conduct electricity and heat well.
  • They have a characteristic sheen.
  • They are solid at room temperature, except for mercury.
  • They are ductile and malleable.

Ferrous metals include soft iron, steel, and cast iron. Non-ferrous metals include aluminum, copper, tin, lead, etc.

Extrusion and Blow Molding Processes

This process consists of making an extrusion into a mold and then introducing air under pressure. This forces the material to adapt to the walls of the mold, adopting its shape and becoming a hollow body. These bodies are used to make objects such as eggs and bottles.

Industrial Cutting Methods and Technologies

  • Sawing: It is carried out with band saws or discs driven by special machines. The first is often used for light cuts and the second for more difficult cuts.
  • Waterjet Cutting: Uses a very fine jet of water projected at high pressure to cut materials.
  • Laser Cutting: A very concentrated light source is used to achieve high accuracy across all materials.
  • Arc Cutting: This is done using the heat obtained from an electrical current, which melts the material.
  • Oxy-fuel Cutting (Oxicorte): This is carried out through the joint action of a combustible gas and a stream of oxygen, which burns a strip of material.
