Human Rights and Global Social Equality

1. Prisoners of Conscience

A prisoner of conscience is detained for their beliefs without having used violence, whereas a common prisoner has been arrested for committing a recognized crime.

2. Refugees and Displaced Persons

Refugees have fled their homes for reasons beyond their control and have been welcomed into another country. Conversely, internally displaced persons have also been forced to leave their homes but have not crossed an international border.

4. Poverty and Human Development

Poverty prevents access to hygienic conditions, food, and medical care necessary for health. It also limits the possibility of receiving an education that allows individuals to escape their situation and achieve freedom.

5. Indicators of Development

Key indicators include:

  • Percentage of the population with a life expectancy of less than 40 years.
  • Percentage of people without access to health services and safe drinking water.
  • Children under 5 years old suffering from malnutrition.

The Third and Fourth Worlds

  • Third World: Refers to underdeveloped countries where a large part of the population lives in extreme poverty.
  • Fourth World: Refers to people living in extreme poverty within industrialized countries.

6. Government Responsibility

Governments should ensure national stability and the education of the population to encourage initiative. They must also ensure investments, avoid corruption, and distribute wealth to guarantee health for all.

8-9. Voting Rights and Gender Equality

The struggle for voting rights for both men and women was essential. Although legal equality was achieved, society often continued to restrict women to the domestic sphere regarding politics and the economy.

10-11. Complementary Roles and Legislative Action

While men and women are essentially equal, they possess different values that complement each other to improve society. Signatory states are committed to implementing policies and legislative measures to ensure the practical application of equality between men and women.

12-13. Global Challenges

Issues regarding linguistic expression and labor persist. In many Islamic countries, there is no equality before the law for women, and in many African countries, women are expected to shoulder the majority of labor and civic responsibilities.
