3. Logical Follow-up (Vocabulary)

Examples of sentences that fit logically:

  • My father is my role model. I want to be just like him when I grow up.
  • Jamie is reluctant to try rock climbing. He is quite afraid of heights.
  • Our team won hands down. The final score was 5-0; it was very easy.
  • Paula isn't in good shape. She gets tired very quickly when she runs.
  • Bob looks out of place next to those players. He is much shorter and doesn't have the right kit.

4. Passive Voice

Examples:

  • Active: The coach will give the winner two basketball tickets.
    Passive: The winner will be given two basketball tickets (by the coach). / Two basketball tickets will be given to the winner (by the coach).
  • Passive: It is believed that some sports are too dangerous. / Some sports are believed to be too dangerous.
  • Passive: We will be sent our new kits next week. / Our new kits will be sent to us next week.
  • Passive: Have the children been shown the film yet? / Has the film been shown to the children yet?

5. Causative Form (have/get something done)

Structure: Subject + have/get + object + past participle.

  • You should have your hair cut.
  • We are having the food prepared for the event.
  • You should have your leg seen (by a doctor).
  • She had that dress designed.
  • We need to have the fridge fixed.

6. Mixed Grammar (Passive, Active, Causative)

  • Where will the championship be held next season? (Future Passive)
  • Athletes should have their hearts checked every year. (Causative)
  • I'm sorry, but the game was cancelled last night. (Past Passive)
  • The rules say that players must not strike their opponents. (Active - Modal)
  • At the last hockey game, I had my photo taken with the whole team. (Causative)
