Future Tenses in English

Will: Promises and Instant Decisions

Used for offers, promises, and predictions based on our own beliefs (zer gerta daitekeen baina zuk uste dezuna). Also used for instant decisions without planning before (momentuan).

Example: He comes to her and asks her if she will marry him. “Will you marry me?” She responds, “Yes, I will!

Going To: Intentions and Predictions

Used for intentions (asmoak) and predictions in the near future when it is already certain that something is going to happen.

Examples:

  • What time are you leaving tomorrow?
  • I’m visiting my parents at the weekend.
  • Look at those clouds; it is going to rain.
  • “Maria phoned you.” “OK. I’m going to phone her back.”

Present Continuous: Fixed Arrangements

It is used for plans and arrangements when you have already set a specific time and place.

Example (Adibidez): I am eating. She is buying.
