Reported Speech Tense Changes

  • Present Simple → Past Simple: "I eat an apple," she said. → She said (that) she ate an apple.

Modal Verbs in Reported Speech

Conditional Sentences

  • Zero Conditional: If + present simple, present simple (facts) → If you heat water, it boils.
  • First Conditional: If + present simple, will/won’t + infinitive (possible) → If it rains, I will stay home.
  • Second Conditional: If + past simple, would/wouldn’t + infinitive (improbable) → If I won the lottery, I would travel.
  • Third Conditional: If + past perfect, would/wouldn’t have + past participle (past regrets) → If I had studied, I would have passed.
