The Impact of Digital Advertising
People spend a lot of time online today. Because of this, many advertising campaigns focus on the Internet, and there are adverts on every webpage that you open. Is this good business, or is it an invasion of our privacy?
The Benefits of Online Ads
On the one hand, digital advertising allows consumers to easily get information about brands or items they want to buy. Furthermore, you can compare prices effortlessly and find out where to purchase an item for the best value. This prevents people from making decisions which they might later regret.
Privacy Concerns and Retargeting
On the other hand, digital advertising can be extremely irritating. Pop-up adverts are especially annoying. These adverts are popular with advertisers because you cannot shut them off without clicking on them. Moreover, they often lead to retargeting, in which adverts from a company "follow" you around the web.
Conclusion on Digital Privacy
In conclusion, despite the convenience of having information available online, I believe that most online advertising is an invasion of our privacy. Governments should control online advertising so that people can use the Internet without interruption.
Formal Complaint: Gender Inequality in School Sports
Dear Ms. Blackburn,
I am writing to complain about the gender inequality in our school sports programme. I believe our school policies are unfair, as girls are prevented from joining most of the school sports teams.
Current Sports Disparity
The girls at our school have a gymnastics team and a netball team. The boys have a choice of basketball, football, swimming, cricket, and more. These teams are closed to girls. To participate in any extracurricular sports, girls have to join a sports centre outside school.
The Importance of Equal Opportunity
Studies have shown that when teenagers participate in sport, their mental health and self-image improve. In my opinion, it is the school's responsibility to make sure that girls have the same opportunities for self-development as boys.
Proposed Action Plan
It is time to take action on this issue by introducing more sports activities for girls. In addition, the school rules should be changed so that girls are allowed to participate in previously all-male teams. So as not to lower the level of these teams, everyone should have to meet the same standards.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Carolyn Marks
