  • Software Engineering
  • Computer Systems
  • Computer Science
  • Information Management

Beyond scientific knowledge, the program provides the skills to plan, design, evaluate, construct, maintain, operate, organize, and manage computer systems for a wide variety of enterprises and institutions at both national and regional levels.

History of the Department

The department originated in December 1964 with the approval of the Computer Center at the University of Concepción.

In 1967, the Computer Center became the Center for Computer Science and Information (CCCI), incorporating a team of professionals who managed the Unit Record (UR) at the university headquarters.

Following the 1968 reform process, the center structured its organization into two academic divisions: Training and Services.

In 1977, these divisions gained autonomy, leading to the creation of the Institute of Computer Science and Informatics (ICCI) and the Directorate of Planning and Information (DPI).

In 1980, during the reorganization of university faculties, the ICCI joined the Faculty of Engineering. This consolidated the schools of Civil Engineering and the Institute of Computer Science and Informatics into the Department of Systems Engineering (DIS).

After the discontinuation of Performance Engineering, the department began offering the Civil Engineering in Computing degree in 1982 and Civil Industrial Engineering in 1984. In June 1993, the department was formally established in its current structure following the separation of the DIS and DII components.
