Thomas Aquinas: The son of Landolfo, Count of Aquino, Thomas, the most significant scholastic philosopher and perhaps the most important Christian philosopher of all time, was born in Roccasecca (near Aquino, Italy) in 1224. After doing his early education at the Benedictine monastery of Monte Cassino and the University of Naples, joined with twenty years of age to order dominica (mendicant). By then his father died and his mother, who did not accept your child enters a mendicant order, locked him in the family castle in order to make them quit their decision. THOUGHT: Thomas clearly distinguished and reason faith, philosophy and theology, but he was sure that, as both lead us to the truth, there must be consistency between them. Philosophy belongs to the realm of reason, there just is no place for truths that we access to natural light of reason. For its part, accepted as true theology of revealed truths. Both lead to the truth, but faith exercised authority over reason. Theology recognizes the truth of the articles of faith but not always failed to understand fully. When there is a disagreement between the statements of philosophy and the revealed, we are in the presence of an error, and as the error can not be assigned to the revelation (from God) we can be sure that whoever is wrong philosophy. In some cases the error is because the philosopher has attempted to enter a field with the reason that escapes her powers and that is reserved for the faith (as the mysteries of the Incarnation or the Trinity). Among the data released are many dealing with truths that fall within the realm of reason, ie that have nothing to do about the mystery and the unprovable. Thomas believes that it is always best to believe and understand that for us to strive for the full understanding of why those revealed truths that do not exceed its capacity, and fall under natural light. Natural Theology faith knows where you are going, but progress through reason. Faith works there, therefore, as a rule negative, indicating the errors when the argument is positive but not giving any to respect the autonomy of the philosophical field.
