2 - the linguistic sign.-Linguistic signs are a type of signals used in the formation of messages in a language.

2.1. COMPONENTS OF SIGN LANGUAGE.-The signifier is specified in two dimensions. * Physical: the sounds we utter and transmitted through the air. * Psychic: the acoustic image we have of such sounds in our minds and allows us to recognize each of the sounds of the word. -The particular meaning in two dimensions: * Physics: The reality to which we apply the term. * Psychic: the concept, the mental image we have in the brain. Sounds and reality are material or physical components of the linguistic sign, while the acoustic image and concept are mental or psychological components. The linguistic sign is of a psychological nature.

2.2 Characteristics of linguistic signs.-Linguistic signs are part of a code. A language is a code, ie a system consisting of a set of linguistic signs and combination rules that allow us to construct messages. Talk is encoded or encrypt what we mean, listen to decode or decrypt the messages that we receive.-Linguistic signs are conventional.-Linguistic signs are linear. -Linguistic signs are arbitrary, ie there is a similarity between the signifier of a linguistic sign and the reality it represents. -The onomatopoeic linguistic signs whose signifier is some relation of similarity to events or objects that point.

2.4 TYPES OF SIGNIFICANCE. - Denotes, is based on the features that serve to distinguish some concepts of others.-Connotative, links words with feelings or ideas (remember lynx intelligence, speed ...) Types of connotations: * Language: association of a word in the language, dialect or language level to which it belongs (Hall, curriculum ...) * Cultural: associating a word with a cultural event. (Ham) * Individual: associating a word with a personal experience (plow)

2.5 THE MEANING AND SENSE.Differences in interpretation of the same linguistic utterance depends on the intent of the speaker. There are two levels:-what the message says, literally, which means (meaning)-what the sender meant to use that message (sense)

- Features: * Meaning: coded literal (he says), constant, linguistic. * Meaning: uncoded intentional (what means), variable, pragmatic.
