The Ant, the Grasshopper, and the Wise Old Oak

In a sun-drenched meadow, there lived an Ant and a Grasshopper who were next-door neighbors. The Ant was a diligent worker. Every single day, she would set off early, work tirelessly, and store up food for the winter. She never put off what she could do today.

The Grasshopper, on the other hand, lived a carefree life. He would spend his days singing songs, strumming his fiddle, and mocking the Ant for her constant labor. "Why do you work so hard?" he would laugh. "Come, relax and enjoy the sunshine! Carpe diem!"

The Ant would simply smile and say, "Winter is just around the corner. We must prepare for it."

But the Grasshopper ignored her warnings, believing she was unnecessarily anxious.

The Arrival of Winter

Sure enough, the seasons changed. A bitter winter set in, and the meadow was covered in a thick blanket of snow. The Grasshopper, having run out of food and shelter, found himself in a difficult situation. He was shivering, hungry, and desperate.

Swallowing his pride, he arrived at the Ant's door. "Please," he stammered, "I am in need. Could you spare a bite to eat?"

The Ant looked him over. She had stored plenty of food, but she was firm. "I warned you," she said. "You played while you should have been preparing. A stitch in time saves nine, you know."

The Wisdom of the Oak

Just then, the Wise Old Oak, who had observed them all summer, spoke up. "Your hard work has paid off, little Ant," the tree rumbled. "And you, Grasshopper, have learned a hard lesson. But remember: A friend in need is a friend indeed."

The Ant considered this. She saw the genuine regret in the Grasshopper's eyes. "Alright," she said. "You can come in and warm up. I will help you this time. But tomorrow, we must create a plan for you to turn over a new leaf."

The Grasshopper was deeply grateful. "Thank you! I promise I will make up for my idleness. I will pull my own weight from now on!"
