Understanding Linux Processes and Shell Commands

Technology2.18 KB

Unit 2: Linux Process Management

What is a Process?

A process is defined as an entity that represents the basic unit of work to be implemented in the system.

Foreground and Background Processes

  • Foreground Process: Every process, when started, runs in the foreground by default. It receives input from the keyboard and sends output to the screen.
  • Background Process: It runs in the background without requiring keyboard input. Other processes can run in parallel because they do not have to wait for the background process to complete.

Different Types of Processes

Parent and Child Processes

The second and third columns of the ps -f command display the Process ID (PID) and Parent Process ID (PPID). For each user process, there is a parent process in the system,...

The Importance of Recycling: Types and Benefits

Technology2.22 KB

Hello, I'm Laura and I'm going to talk about recycling.

- Recycling is a process whose objective is to convert waste into new products or raw materials for later use. Thanks to recycling, the disuse of useful materials is prevented, the consumption of new raw materials is reduced, in addition to reducing energy use, air and water pollution, and also reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to the production of plastics.
Recycling is a key component in contemporary waste reduction and is the third component of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle).
Types of bins for recycling: there are many types of containers for recycling, one for each category.
Blue bin (paper and paperboard): cardboard containers, boxes, trays... must be deposited in this

File Systems: Structure, Management, and Optimization

Technology5.7 KB

1. Non-Volatile Memory

Non-volatile memory retains stored information even when not powered. It is used for secondary storage or long-term persistent storage. Examples include:

  • CD
  • Hard Disk (similar reading and writing time)
  • Solid-State Drive (SSD): No moving mechanical components, no difference for sequential vs. random reading, but a significant difference between reading and writing.
  • ROM
  • Flash Memory
  • Magnetic Tape: Natural sequential reading and writing, suitable for backups.

2. File System

A file is a contiguous logical address space that can be written to, read from, opened, closed, and deleted. It has the following attributes:

  • Name
  • Unique ID
  • Type
  • Location
  • Size
  • Protection
  • Date

Information about files is stored in file system structures.

3. Directory

Oil Extraction, Refining, and Petrochemical Processes Explained

Technology2.59 KB

Oil Extraction

  • Rotation Method: A system of coupled tubes driven by a motor that turns and drills downward.
  • Jacket: As the drilling progresses, the hole is lined with brown or steel liners.
  • Site Utilization: Calculations suggest that oil reservoirs are typically only utilized between 25% and 50% of their total capacity.
  • Pumping of Oil: When internal reservoir pressure decreases to a point where oil ceases to ascend naturally, mechanical pumps are required to force the oil to the surface.
  • Water Injection: To increase reservoir profitability, water injection systems are used in parallel wells. While oil is extracted from one well, water is injected into a nearby well to maintain pressure.

Refining and Procurement of Goods

  • Distillation: A fundamental

Computer Architecture: Memory, I/O, Buses, and Motherboard

Technology2.89 KB

Memory Components

For a device to function, it requires:

  • Storage Medium/Support: The physical element containing the memory, capable of supporting two different energy states. The medium can be:
    • Discrete: A single item stores each bit.
    • Continuous: Bits are stored sequentially, differentiated by a clock signal.
  • Memory can be classified based on data retention:
    • Durable/Non-Volatile: Information is stored permanently unless intentionally erased.
    • Volatile: Information is lost when power is removed.
    • Refresh-based: Information fades over time and requires periodic rewriting.
    • Destructive Read: Reading erases the data, requiring a re-write after each read operation.
    • Read-Only: Information can only be recorded once.
  • Drivers: Manage reading and writing operations.

Automotive Fuel Injection Systems: KE-Jetronic to MONO-MOTRONIC

Technology4.29 KB

KE-Jetronic Fuel Injection System

KE-Jetronic combines K-Jetronic and electronic control. It features an electrohydraulic flow injection system that adapts to engine operating states, enriching or leaning the fuel mixture as needed. Unlike some systems, it does not have a warming phase regulator. Key components include an engine temperature probe, a throttle butterfly switch, and a potentiometer within the flowmeter that determines the position of the plate probe.

L-Jetronic Fuel Injection System

L-Jetronic is a fully electronic system, characterized by intermittent and simultaneous fuel injection. Fuel volume is measured by a paddle-tube flowmeter. Fuel is metered by electromagnetic injectors. This system does not use a fuel distributor/doser....

Rotor and Stator Maintenance: Ensuring Optimal Performance

Technology2.88 KB

Rotor Certificate: Key Inspection Points

  1. Shaft and Polar Icecaps: Carefully inspect the shaft and polar icecaps for any cracks or signs of oxidation.
  2. Shaft Pads: The shaft pads on the bearings should exhibit a smooth surface and no signs of excessive wear on the slip rings.
  3. Slip Ring Cleaning: Clean the slip rings with a cloth soaked in alcohol. They should appear smooth and shiny. If sparking, roughness, or excessive wear is observed, the slip rings should be inspected using a lathe.
  4. Induction Coil Resistance:
    • Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the induction coil.
    • Apply the probes to the slip rings. The reading should match the manufacturer's recommended value (typically 4 to 5 ohms as a guideline).
    • Measure the insulation of the induction
