The Tertiary Sector in Spain

Trade

Commercial activity in Spain is one of the most important activities in the Spanish economy, both for its contribution to the country's wealth (32.3%) and its number of workers (almost 3 million people).

More than 95% of trade companies have less than 10 employees, but these small companies employ almost half of the sector's workers. For products, the most important sectors are food, beverages, and tobacco.

In foreign trade, Spain has traditionally had a negative trade balance because it imported more than it exported. However, this trend has changed in recent years. In the months leading up to the invasion, the Allies conducted a substantial military deception, codenamed Operation Bodyguard, to mislead the Germans as to the date and location of the main Allied landings. The weather on D-Day was far from ideal,... Continue reading "D-Day: The Historic Allied Invasion of Normandy" »

  • In exchange, the other had to fight or work for their protection.
