A Change of School

Everyone knows that a change of school can be difficult. It doesn't matter why you change schools, it's hard. However, is it really that difficult?

Certainly, there are many advantages. For starters, you can meet new people and experience new customs. In addition, there may be more modern facilities than in your other school. And for this reason, there may be a different way of learning, although this could be a disadvantage, because you are not used to this way of learning.

More disadvantages could be that sometimes you lose contact with your old classmates. And there are new teachers who you have never seen before, and maybe new subjects, too.

To sum up, if you are going to change schools, go for it! It will be a new experience... Continue reading "A Change of Schools, a Scary Dream, and a Job Application" »

Character Studies: Isolation and Identity in Of Mice and Men

Crooks: Intelligence Amidst Isolation and Delusion

John Steinbeck subtly reveals Crooks' intelligence despite his profound isolation. His room, filled with books, immediately suggests a knowledgeable individual. Significantly, Crooks possesses a copy of the California Civil Code. This detail implies a desperate hope for control over his future, a poignant delusion given the systemic denial of Black civil rights during that era.

Curley's Wife: A Portrait of Loneliness and Objectification

Curley's Wife stands as the sole prominent female character on the ranch, making her a unique figure in the novel. Steinbeck portrays her husband, Curley, as intensely possessive. This is underscored by... Continue reading "Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men: Isolation, Identity, and Vulnerability" »

Dear John/Hi John,

It's great to hear from you after so long! How are you doing? I'm so excited about your visit next summer. Let me give you some tips so you can get ready.

First of all, there are some places which you can't miss! For example, here in Barcelona you should totally visit Sagrada Familia, an ancient cathedral. It was nominated to become one of the new seven wonders of the world. Also, don't forget to check out Castelldefels viewpoint - you will have the best views of Barcelona and the whole city.

As for clothes, remember that it can get super hot in Barcelona, especially for foreigners! So forget about long sleeves or trousers and just pack some shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. Oh, remember to bring a cap, too!

By the way, do you have... Continue reading "Tips for Visiting Barcelona: What to See and Pack" »

Dear María. Your last email was a real surprise. It was so nice of you to remember about our adolescence. How are you in love? I hope everything goes ok for you. Hereabouts all is the same old faces, but I'll tell you somethng, that happened last friday. I met Pablo and we went for a meal. Later, we went to the cinema to see a film. When it finished, I saw him and my face lit up. He kissed me and finally I smiled. I'm over the moon about this, so it's fantastic. I can't wait to hear from you. I miss you, because since you aren't here I feel sad. When will I see you again? Bye for now, give my regards to your mum. Kisses, for us.

The school

My school
My school is big and modern. The students are sociable and the teachers are easy-going and we are many students. We have to follow some rules. For example, we must run inside the school and we must go to the bathroom two times. I have a lot of subjects and homework, I feel very nervous because I don't have time for all.  I should organize my time. We can have breakfast in a canteen or in a class and we should eat healthy food. When you finish your breakfast you must put on a mask. When the teacher talks, we shouldn't talk with our class friends because we must listen to the teacher.113

The Ghost of Coyote Canyon

"Tell me about the old Chumash cemetery and Mr. Richardson," said Nick, as they walked to the barbeque at Blue River Park.

"Oh, you won't believe it, Nick!" said Bill. "People at Coyote Canyon say that on nights when there's a full moon they see an American Indian Warrior. He has a black horse and gallops through the canyon. They think he's a ghost and they're scared!"

"The ghost of an American Indian warrior?" asked Nick, surprised.

"Yeah," said Michelle, "and some people want to sell their new homes!"

"I'm sure Mr. Richardson isn't very happy about that," said Nick.

"No," said Bill, "but he continues building there."

"He and his wife live at Coyote Canyon," said Michelle.

"Have they ever seen the ghost of the warrior?"... Continue reading "The Chumash Cemetery and the Coyote Canyon Legend" »

King for a Day

Pierce the Veil ft. Kellin Quinn

[Verse 1]

Vic:
Dare me to jump off of this Jersey bridge,
Kellin:
I bet you never had a Friday night like this.
Vic:
Keep it up, keep it up, let's raise our hands,
Kellin:
I take a look up in the sky and I see red.
Vic:
Red for the cancer, red for the wealthy,
Red for the drink that's mixed with suicide.
Kellin:
Everything red.

[Pre-Chorus: Kellin]

Please, won't you push me for the last time?
Let's scream until there's nothing left
So sick of playing, I don't want this anymore.
The thought of you is no fucking fun.
You want a martyr? I'll be one
Because enough's enough,
We're done.

[Chorus: Vic]

You told me, "Think about it."
Well, I did, now I don't wanna feel a thing anymore
I'm tired of begging... Continue reading "King for a Day: Lyrics & Meaning" »
