A Life-Changing Summer: Becoming a Swimming Instructor

When I was 17, I took on a summer job as a swimming instructor. I was regularly assigned challenging classes with students who had significant fear of the water or couldn't swim at all. Being relatively young myself, I didn't have much experience working with children, yet I routinely managed classes of up to 10 kids, ranging in age from 5 to 16. There were moments I wasn't sure I was cut out for it.

Miriam's Journey: Overcoming Fear in the Pool

In one of my "Jump Start" classes, designed for absolute beginners, I met Miriam. She was a tiny, frail, and extremely fearful 5-year-old. Alongside 8-9 other children, Miriam was one of my primary focuses. I spent a considerable amount of time with her, as she was the smallest and most hesitant student. Despite her initial fear, Miriam proved to be incredibly loving and a quick learner.

When the course concluded, I received a huge gift: a photo of us swimming together. This profound experience, witnessing Miriam's progress and overcoming her fear, deeply inspired me. It was then that I realized I wanted to study to become a teacher.

YouTube Videos: Advantages and Disadvantages

Millions of internet users enjoy viewing free videos on YouTube. If you're one of them, the thought of creating your own YouTube video has likely crossed your mind. Before you decide to create and upload a video, it's wise to examine both the advantages and disadvantages.

Disadvantages of YouTube Video Creation

  • Global Reach and Privacy Concerns: The biggest downside of making a YouTube video is its global accessibility. Many people mistakenly believe their video will only be seen by YouTube members. However, you don't need a YouTube account to view videos, and links are frequently shared via email with family and friends. Be aware that any video you upload can be viewed by anyone with an internet connection.
  • Information Disclosure: Think twice about the personal information you disclose. For example, if you're creating a video blog, you may not want to use your real name or your entire legal name. If you indicate your state, avoid disclosing your specific town or city.

Advantages of YouTube Video Creation

  • Ease of Use: YouTube is remarkably easy to use, even for those with minimal computer skills. For the most part, all you really need is a video recording device (such as a webcam) and video editing software. You'll be uploading and sharing videos in no time.
  • Business Exposure: You can create videos to significantly boost your business exposure. With millions of YouTube members online daily, chances are you will gain enough viewers to achieve the exposure you're seeking.
  • Content Strategy: When creating videos for business purposes, keep them as spam-free as possible. It's also a good idea to include your business information at the end of your video.

Ultimately, it is important to use your best judgment when creating your video content.
