Understanding Hypotheses and Variables
The word "hypothesis" has Greek roots: thesis, which means "what goes", combined with hypo, a particle meaning "under." So, a hypothesis is "what goes underneath."
Assumptions and Variables
Assumptions are theoretical statements, unverified, but likely references to variables or the relationship between variables. So, what is a variable? A variable is an observable characteristic of something. Variables are subject to change or variation, adopting different values. They can be categorized and are interrelated. Scientific research revolves around them.
The Role of Variables in Research
The purpose of scientific work is to discover the existence and magnitude of variables and to test the relationships that bind them together. Research operates with variables in all stages: observation, classification, analysis, and explanation. Variables are discovered and measured during observation, grouped during classification, and related during tabulation. Analysis involves studying and interpreting them. All things and realities of the world can be considered as variables.
Scenarios and Assumptions
Scenarios are defined as likely solutions to a problem if confirmed by the facts. An interesting question, raised by an open research problem, has many possible answers, among which the true answer is unknown. The explanations or possible solutions to the issues raised are the assumptions. Assumptions are primarily linguistic statements that express judgments, statements, or denials of reality. There are workarounds, attempts for a given problem.

Characteristics of a Scenario
To recap, a scenario is characterized by:
- An intermittent part of an assumption.
- The data should be tested.
- Research is needed on them.
- The consequences must remove them from the data observed and the investigations.
- The consequences may not occur if the data are not tested.
