Wholesale Trade

Wholesale trade concentrates production and distributes it to retailers. The most significant development in this sector has been the creation of warehouse clubs (cash & carry or discount chains), mainly in food, beverages, and tobacco. These establishments seek central locations for production and consumption and serve areas of various sizes (municipal or regional). The regions with the most developed wholesale trade are Catalonia, Andalusia, Valencia, and Madrid.

Retail Trade

Retail trade involves selling directly to consumers. This branch exhibits the greatest contrast between traditional and modern trade. Traditional retail trade accounts for 90% of all retail. It consists of small establishments located in older buildings, led by individual entrepreneurs who tend to have a single establishment. These businesses typically have few employees, a high percentage of whom are family members, with limited education and advanced age. The facilities are often inadequate. Today, traditional retail is in crisis due to the rise of supermarkets.

Welfare State

The Welfare State is a group of social security programs designed to provide a minimum standard of living for people with lower economic potential. These programs include direct financial assistance, medical care, free healthcare, and sometimes discount coupons for food. Potential recipients of these programs are individuals living in poverty. Welfare state programs are funded through the state budget and contributions from local and regional governments.

Accessibility

Accessibility refers to the degree of intercommunication within an urban area and considers the ease of reaching a specific area from a given point.

Highway

A highway is a communication route with two or three lanes in each direction, separated by a fence or wall to prevent vehicles traveling in opposite directions from dazzling each other. Parking is prohibited on the hard shoulder, except where indicated. Highways do not pass through towns and have gentle, wide-radius curves. Slow vehicles are not permitted. Highways facilitate the movement of a large number of vehicles at high speeds.

AVE (High-Speed Rail)

AVE (Alta Velocidad Española) is a high-speed rail system that aligns with international standards: high technology, advanced equipment, and speeds exceeding 250 km/h. It began with the opening of the Madrid-Seville line in 1992. The Infrastructure Plan includes its expansion and connection to the European network.

Internet

The Internet is an information highway that combines the basic telephone network and satellite communication. Users can navigate these highways using their computers.

Suburban Train

A suburban train is a transportation system dedicated to moving people between outlying homes and workplaces in the central city. It is currently quite profitable.

Ecotourism

Ecotourism is a form of tourism developed to mitigate the seasonal and geographic concentration that characterizes the traditional tourism model (sun and beach). Ecotourism primarily values natural and ecological conditions, such as national parks.

Cultural Tourism

Cultural tourism involves leisure travel primarily seeking cultural experiences: learning about other cultures, lifestyles, art, etc.

Beach Tourism

Beach tourism involves leisure travel essentially seeking beaches and good weather.

Rural Tourism

Rural tourism involves leisure travel primarily seeking rural areas, with accommodation in houses prepared by the residents of the villages where this type of tourism exists.

Supermarket

Supermarkets are self-service stores that sell three basic categories of products: food, textiles, and general merchandise. They have a large sales area (no less than 2,500 m2) and free parking for customers. They typically follow a special schedule, usually from 10 AM to 10 PM, attracting a large number of customers. Supermarkets are located on the outskirts of cities, along main roads and road junctions. (e.g., Carrefour)
