Core Messages

Symbolism in Revelation

The Woman and Rome

The woman represents Rome. She wears purple to symbolize royalty, bears blasphemous names on her forehead to represent the emperors, and wears pearls to signify the wealth of Rome. We may apply this today by recognizing the blasphemy and materialism in the world, while remembering that God is the only source of truth.

The Birth of the Child

A woman gives birth to a child; the woman represents Mary, the child represents Jesus, and the dragon represents the denial of faith. This mirrors the birth of Jesus and alludes to Christ's triumph over evil, a theme previously established in Genesis with the promise of a redeemer.

The Beasts

Beast #1 represents the Roman Empire, while Beast #2 represents Nero Caesar. This indicates that at the end of time, civilization will crumble.

Biblical Numerology

Biblical symbolic numbers connect to specific events. For example, the number 7 is considered the perfect number, appearing in Revelation through the seven trumpets and seven angels.

The Harvest

John refers to those who enter heaven when he describes the harvest being ripe, an allusion previously made in the story of the vineyard.

The Eucharist and Heavenly Liturgy

Aspects of the Mass today foreshadow the heavenly liturgy, specifically through the Eucharist. When we receive the Eucharist, we share in the grace of God and enter into full communion with Him, foreshadowing our eternal relationship in heaven.

Judgment and the Afterlife

Particular judgment occurs at the moment of death, where our souls are judged by God to determine our union with Him:

  • Hell: Occurs if we are unwilling to seek God and demonstrate a desire to be apart from Him.
  • Purgatory: A state of being cleansed and purified of venial sins before entering heaven.
  • Heaven: Living in full communion with God in eternal happiness.

The Three States of the Church

  1. The Church Militant: The faithful on earth who pray for those in purgatory.
  2. The Church Triumphant: Those in heaven who pray for the people on earth.
  3. The Church Suffering: Those in purgatory who pray for the faithful on earth once they enter heaven.

Key Terms
