Dialogue 12: Currency Exchange

12.

A: Hello. What can I do for you?

B: I’d like to exchange €300 for British pounds, please.

A: Can I see some ID, please?

B: Sure. Here’s my passport. What’s your exchange rate?

A: It’s £0.85 per euro. So €300 comes out to £255.

B: Would you like large banknotes or small ones?

A: I’d like a hundred of that in fives, tens and fifties, please. And could you give me some coins as well?

B: Of course. Here you are. Is there anything else I can help you with?

A: Yes… How much do you charge for cashing traveller’s cheques?

B: There’s no fee for that.

A: Great. Can you cash these, please?

B: €20, of course.

Dialogue 11: Car Rental Reservation

11.

A: Hello, Premier Car Rentals. How can I help you?

B: Hello. My name’s Sharon Brown. I’d like to reserve a car for 10th April, please.

A: OK, and for how long do you want the car?

B: Two weeks.

A: All right. You’ll be returning it on… the twenty-fourth of April?

B: Yes. On the 24th.

A: What kind of car would you like?

B: I’ll be coming with my family, so we’ll need a standard saloon.

A: OK. A standard saloon. No problem.

B: Good. Now we’ll want to pick it up in London but will it be all right if we drop it off in Aberdeen?

A: That’s fine. There’s no extra charge for that.

B: Great. And what are your rates?

A: We’ve got a special weekly rate of £112. It works out much cheaper than the daily rate.

B: Sound good. Is there a mileage charge?

A: You have 1,000 free miles. After that, it’s 20 pence a mile. How will you be paying?

B: By credit card.

Dialogue 10: Car Pickup and Rental Agreement

10.

A: Hi. We’ve reserved a car, and we’re here to pick it up.

B: Certainly. What’s your name?

A: Ashton. Craig Ashton. And this is my wife, Lucy Ashton. We’ll both be driving.

B: Let me see, that’s a compact-class car for ten days. Is that correct?

A: Yes, that’s right.

B: OK. We’ve given you a Ford Focus. It’s a hatchback. It’s got air conditioning and it’s automatic. Where will you be dropping it off?

A: At your Surrey office.

B: OK. There’s a full tank of petrol, and you must fill it up before you return the car.

A: And what time must we drop it off?

B: By noon on 9th March. Could I see your driving licences, please?

A: Sure.

B: Here’s your rental agreement. Just sign here, please.
