I was going to talk about tennis, but many of my teammates have already covered that topic, and I believe you likely know even more about it than I do. Instead, I want to discuss one of my favorite things to do: traveling.
A Lifelong Passion
I have been fortunate that, since I was young, my parents have taken me to many different places—from Asia to America—and they still do today. From a very young age, I realized that traveling teaches you many things that you might otherwise ignore, such as:
- Different cultures and traditions
- Unique stories and histories
- Diverse cuisines
- New perspectives
You meet new people and often make friends who teach you even more about the world.
The Challenges of the Journey
The only aspect of traveling I dislike is sitting on a plane for a long time. The longest I have spent on a single flight was around twelve hours, and by the second hour, I was already going crazy!
Self-Discovery and Growth
I believe that by traveling, you learn who you really are. Overcoming challenges and stepping out of my comfort zone brings me a lot of joy. The unexpected situations presented during a trip define your character. Traveling also provides perspective; meeting people from diverse cultures teaches you that your worldview is not the only one, and that you could, in fact, be wrong about certain things. Seeing reality for yourself offers a perspective often missing from mass media.
Escaping the Daily Routine
Traveling helps me disconnect from regular life. When I travel, essays and tests don't matter—though the return to reality can be difficult, it is always worth it. Changing your daily routine and doing something unfamiliar is always fun.
Learning and Connection
I believe the best way to learn a new language is to speak with native speakers, and traveling provides that first-hand experience. Furthermore, I cannot forget the lifelong memories created during these trips. Traveling strengthens bonds with family and friends, and sharing stories through photos is a highlight of the experience.
The Joy of Trying New Things
One of my favorite things is eating, and traveling allows you to try foods you aren't used to. Sometimes you like them, and sometimes you don't, but the key is to be open to the experience. Finally, I have realized that being away makes you appreciate your family and home even more.
My goal is to keep traveling and visit all the places I haven't been to yet. If you have the opportunity, you should try it too.
Thank you.
