Considering the specializations within a tourism degree, specifically the degree in tourism, there are three primary branches: planning of tourist sites, management of tourism enterprises, and cultural heritage. Two students share their perspectives on choosing a specialization.

Student 1: Focus on Tourism Planning

As a fourth-year tourism student, the choice between managing tourism businesses and planning tourist spaces was a significant decision. Ultimately, the tourism planning branch was selected. The future goal is to establish a sustainable tourist company, such as a hotel or a rural house, integrated within the natural environment.

Sustainability is a core value, aiming to minimize environmental impact through practices like using natural building materials and renewable energy sources. A rural house concept is appealing due to the potential for offering diverse activities that connect visitors with nature, including:

  • Mountain routes
  • Horse riding
  • Climbing
  • Gastronomy-related activities

Choosing this branch has been a positive experience, providing valuable knowledge applicable to future endeavors. Furthermore, establishing a business in a natural setting can contribute to the revitalization of rural communities.

Student 2: Leaning Towards Tourism Management

Currently in the second year of the tourism degree, there's still time to consider the options. However, the inclination is towards the management of tourism companies. Upon graduation, the plan is to pursue a master’s degree in management and tourism companies.

The aspiration is to work in the management of a hotel, rural house, or other tourist accommodation. The role of a hotel manager is recognized as demanding, requiring attention to efficient hotel operations, staff management, and ensuring excellent guest service.

Geographic location is flexible, with a desire to work outside of Spain to gain exposure to different languages and cultures. The management of tourism companies is the preferred branch, aligning with personal interests and perceived strengths as a potential manager in the tourism sector.
