Why I Love Tennis

Hello everyone. I would like to talk about my favorite activity: tennis. I will not explain how to play, as that is impossible to teach in three minutes. Instead, I will share my perspective on why tennis is one of the most interesting activities you can do. I love tennis because it provides me with:

  • An excellent opportunity to test myself in competition.
  • A huge rush of emotion.
  • The desire to feel the joy of victory with every game.

The Ultimate Test of Self-Reliance

Tennis has many advantages, like other sports, but what I like most is that you are solely responsible for yourself and your actions. For example, if you are playing a singles match, nobody can replace you on the court. If you are tired or not in good shape that day, you still have to finish the match, and nobody will help you hit the ball over the net. Therefore, with clenched teeth, you have to fight until the last point.

Additionally, there are no time limits in tennis, which is a huge advantage. You can win the match even if your opponent only needs one more point to beat you.

A Physical and Mental Challenge

There was an instance in professional tennis where two players fought for more than 11 hours (with breaks due to rain) to win a single match. Tennis also attracts me because it allows you the chance to make mistakes. For example, if you are a professional track and field athlete, you have to practice for a long time before competing in a tournament. In tennis, however, you can play a tournament every week, which is awesome.

I think tennis is like chess in motion. You need to make decisions as quickly as possible, think a few steps ahead, and try to anticipate your opponent's actions. At the same time, you have to develop tactics and a strategy for the game, which is why tennis doesn't have time limits.

The Reality of Professional Tennis

However, there is a very big disadvantage if you want to be a professional tennis player. According to Daily Mail research, only 1.8% of male tennis players and 3.1% of female tennis players turned a profit in 2013. The percentages are so small because the expenses to cover travel, a coach's salary, and other costs are usually much higher than the prize money you get from tournaments.

A Great Game for Everyone

Tennis is a great game, and I advise everyone to try it.
