Aircraft Safety Regulations
- Never smoke in the lavatories.
- Never store your bag above your head in the overhead compartment during takeoff or landing.
- Never listen to a radio on the plane without headphones.
- Fasten your seat belt when the "Fasten Seat Belt" light is flashing.
- Never inflate your life jacket inside the aircraft.
- Always know the location of your nearest emergency exit.
Engine Cooling System Description
The water is stored in the radiator and the engine jacket. It's pumped along the bottom hose from the radiator to the engine jacket. It flows through the engine jacket and the heater radiator to the thermostat. When the thermostat is closed, the water keeps going round the engine circuit. When it is open, the water passes along the top hose to the radiator. It runs down the radiator pipes, and this cools it. Air is drawn past the pipes and fins by the fan, and this also helps to cool the water. Finally, the water enters the bottom hose again.
Understanding Prepositions: In, Into, To
- The water is cooled in the radiator.
- The bottom hose carries the water from the radiator to the engine.
- The heater fan blows hot air into the car.
- When the thermostat is closed, the water stays in the engine.
- The pipes in the radiator are made of copper.
- When the thermostat is open, the water flows into the radiator.
- The top hose takes the water to the radiator.
Prepositions in Engine Operation
Petrol Engine Operation
In the petrol engine, the mixture is drawn into the combustion chamber. Pistons in the cylinders move up and compress it. It is ignited, the pistons are forced down, and they turn the crankshaft around.
Jet Engine Operation
In the jet engine, the direction of movement does not have to be changed. The combustion gases turn the turbine and the compressor around as they escape from the combustion chamber. They then leave the engine through the nozzle.
Present Passive Voice in Industrial Processes
Water is pumped at high pressure along the boiler pipes. Coal or oil is burned in the boiler, and the water is converted into high-pressure steam. The steam is taken by pipes to the turbine, where it is used to drive the shaft at high speed. In this way, the generator is driven and electricity is produced. From the turbine, the steam is passed over pipes of cooling water in the condenser, and turned into water again. Then, the water is returned to the boiler by the pump.
Welding Safety Rules
- Use dark goggles or a hand shield.
- Never use compressed gas cylinders for working with.
- Do not put oil or grease on oxygen valves or fittings.
- Keep hose lines out of gangways.
- Do not let cylinders get hot.
- Keep fire extinguishing equipment near you.
- Make sure there is nothing near you that burns easily.
- Do not lift cylinders by their valves or fittings.
- Use screens to protect other people from glare.
- Never handle a hot workpiece directly.
- Store cylinders so that they cannot move.
- Return equipment to the correct place when you finish.
