Labeling box concept: The box labeling is a set of adjacent rectangles subdivided into boxes where specific data are part of a technical drawing. This should be located within the area of execution of the drawing. Labeling boxes are designed for the identification, use, and understanding of technical drawings and related documents.
Labeling Box Contents
Identification Area
Data from the area of identification are required and must provide basic information.
- Number of drawing: The drawing number determined by the owner must be at the lower right corner of the identification area.
- Title of drawing: The drawing title should describe functional content (e.g., the designation of the item represented or a combination).
- Name of the legal owner of the design: The name of the owner of the design can be a business name, an acronym, or a registered logo. If there is no room in this box, the information can be supplemented with a statement concerning the legal protection of the rights of owners; if no space is available, it is placed outside the box or finally in the room designated for this.
- Location area identification: This must be at the lower right corner of the labeling box.

The data to be included are: technical data, indicative data, and administrative data.
Indicative Data
This should include the dimensional unit symbol. These data are not mandatory, but they are recommended.
Technical Data
Within this section should be: the method to indicate the surface finish, the method to indicate geometric tolerances, and the values of the general tolerances that should apply if they are not listed.
Administrative Data
In this format, the sheet date and the name or signature of responsible personnel must be included.
Understanding Scales in Technical Drawings
Scale: This is the relationship between the linear dimension of an element represented in an original design and the actual linear dimension of the same element. Scale = represented linear dimension of an element / actual linear dimension.
- Full Scale: A scale corresponding to the 1:1 ratio means that the representation of the object has the same dimensions as the real object represented.
- Enlargement Scale: This scale corresponds to a ratio greater than 1:1. These scales are higher than the corresponding measures; as the ratio increases, it means that the object is represented 2, 5, 10, 20, etc., times greater than the actual object represented.
