Ecotourism and Responsible Travel

Ecotourism is a type of sustainable tourism that emphasizes conserving nature and improving the lives of local people in rural and wilderness areas. When we visit beautiful places, it's natural to want our holidays to have a positive impact on local people and their environments. Responsible travel is about more authentic holiday experiences that enable you to get a little bit more out of your travels and give a little bit more back to destinations and local people. All holidays have positive and negative impacts locally. Responsible travel maximizes the benefits and minimizes the negative effects of tourism.

Costa Rica: A Popular Ecotourism Destination

Costa Rica is a very popular spot for ecotourism. It combines low cost and easy accessibility with a stable government and a friendly exchange rate. The capital, San Jose, is in a valley with dormant volcanoes on either side. If you have the time, they are definitely worth seeing. From San Jose, the coastal regions of Guanacaste and Puntarenas are less than a day's drive away. These areas provide a variety of attractions for tourists of all types. This area on the Pacific Ocean is known for its surfing as well as its wildlife. Getting there can be part of the fun. It is not uncommon to see brightly colored tropical birds flying around your car. A stop at most any eating establishment along the way will provide a glimpse of unusual animals.

The British Museum

The British Museum is a museum dedicated to human history and culture, located in the Bloomsbury area of London. Its permanent collection, numbering some 8 million works,[3] is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence[3] and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present. It is a point of controversy whether museums should be allowed to possess artifacts taken from other countries, and the British Museum is a notable target for criticism.

Understanding Ecosystems

An ecosystem is a community of plants, animals, and smaller organisms that live, feed, reproduce, and interact in the same area or environment. Some ecosystems are very large. For example, many bird species nest in one place and feed in a completely different area. The largest ecosystems are called biomes.
