Romeo and Juliet Bookmark — Symbolism

Hello, good morning. I come to present my bookmark inspired by the book Romeo and Juliet.

First Drawing — Romeo and Juliet, Black and White

The first drawing, the largest on the bookmark, shows the two protagonists of the book, Romeo and Juliet. If you look closely, Juliet is painted black and Romeo is white. This means that despite being an impossible love because their families did not support each other, black and white symbolize how, like yin and yang, love arose between the two of them. We can also see small black and white hearts that symbolize impossible love.

Second Drawing — Party Mask (Capulet Ball)

The second drawing, which is slightly smaller than the previous one, is a party mask. This drawing represents the Capulet family ball, Juliet's family, when Romeo tried to sneak in unnoticed to see his platonic love Rosaline. When Juliet and Romeo's eyes meet, love arises. Unfortunately, he was discovered by the Capulets and had to flee so he would not get into big trouble.

Third Drawing — Wedding Ring

The third drawing, as we can see, is a wedding ring. This refers to the part of the book when Romeo goes to Juliet's house, sneaking through the garden to ask for her hand in marriage, to which she replies 'Yes.' After a few days, Friar Lawrence secretly marries them.

Fourth Drawing — Love Letter

The fourth drawing, which is a love letter, refers to when the two young lovers were engaged and Juliet sent love letters to her future husband. Her nurse delivered them by hand to Romeo.

Fifth Drawing — Bloody Sword

The fifth drawing is a bloody sword that relates to the scene in which Tybalt Capulet threatened Romeo's friends and murdered Mercutio with his sword. Romeo could not bear to see his friend dead on the ground and confronted Tybalt. Finally, Romeo murdered Tybalt, who turned out to be his wife's cousin. Because of this murder, they exiled Romeo.

Sixth Drawing — Bottle of Poison

The sixth drawing is a bottle of poison and refers to the drink that disguised Juliet's death. Because of this, the whole family and Romeo believed that Juliet had died.

Seventh Drawing — Coffin

The seventh drawing is a coffin that represents the famous scene in which Romeo sees his beloved woman apparently dead in the tomb. Upon seeing this, Romeo takes out a bottle of poison that he had on him, drinks it, and dies. When Juliet wakes up and sees her dead husband, she decides to take his knife and drive it into her heart.

Last Drawing — Heart

The last drawing is a heart; this refers to the tragic story that the book presents, but thanks to these two deaths the two families finally forgave each other.

So far my presentation of my bookmark. I hope you liked it. Goodbye.
