Parson's Pleasure
The story that I enjoyed most was 'Parson's Pleasure' because the story is about an antique dealer. I like the world of antiques, old cars and houses, and old things. It is also funny because the man, to avoid suspicion, parks his car out of sight and dresses as a parson. I also like the method that the man uses to persuade the owners. On one occasion, Boggis finds a particularly valuable commode at a farm. The farmer, Rummins, although initially suspicious, thinks that it is a good price for a worthless piece of furniture. Finally, the farmer is persuaded by Boggis, thinking that Boggis will only use it as firewood.
The Open Window
Framton Nuttel, a young man greatly concerned with his health, reluctantly accepts his doctor's advice to go for a rest in the country. With his sister's encouragement, he goes to stay at an inn she once visited and takes with him letters of introduction from her to several local families. One of these letters is to the Sappleton family. One day, Framton decides to call on them.
At the Sappleton house, Framton is met by 15-year-old Vera, a niece of the family. She is a charming, friendly girl and tries hard to make conversation with him. Framton has no experience with young teenagers and few social skills. Bored and disappointed, Vera decides to have some fun at his expense. She invents an imaginative story about a family tragedy, explaining how her aunt's husband and brothers died, although he is seeing ghosts. When Mrs. Sappleton calls out to them, Framton is so horrified that he runs out of the house. Vera then invents another tale to explain his strange departure.
