The Essence of Being: Why We Need Rebellion
The rebellion is a part of the essence of our being. It is there. It manifests itself in different ways when we allow it. Some focus on vehemently defying anything they do not want. Others work quietly, distancing themselves from unwanted elements in their lives and helping others do the same. There are thousands of ways to express this rebellion—I dare say, as many ways as there are human beings on Earth.
My Personal Connection to the Rebel Essence
And that essence exists in me. It is sometimes hidden, sometimes suddenly reborn, becoming unstoppable.
As a teenager, I wondered why people wanted to be rebels just to prove they were different. That, I thought, was not true rebellion. Whatever it was, I felt it was a kind of empty rebellion. Today I can say that it simply was not my way.
The Undeniable Rebel Fiber
Each person expresses their rebellion in their own way, as they can, as they understand it... as they think fit. But it is undeniable that the rebel fiber lives in all of us. That essence refuses to:
- Accept or resign oneself to fate.
- Be a simple sheep of the flock.
- Live unhappy.
- Let life simply happen to them.
Rebellion Never Truly Leaves
Despite what many who consider themselves adults and experienced in life say, I do not think rebellion ever truly leaves. It can become numb... but there is always something, however insignificant it may seem, that allows us to say, 'This is truly me,' or 'With this, I feel alive.'
It might be listening to a song or watching the sunrise... the most determined will have the opportunity to say that this feeling comes from the very life they lead.
Connecting with Your Unique Essence
No matter what form it takes, I invite you each day to find five minutes to connect with that essence—that part of you that is unique, undeniably unique. Because in doing so, your focus will be recovered, returning awareness to your sense of purpose, your reason for being here and now.
Breaking the Mold and Finding Peace
And perhaps this is not considered rebellion. But if we take time away from the demands imposed, the need for external approval, and the flow of daily life, and dedicate a little energy to ourselves, it is time to break free from that mold. This process allows us:
- To regain our balance.
- To recognize ourselves and feel that we exist.
- To feel alive and be happy.
- To find peace and rediscover our consciousness (and total, supreme conscience).
What else can you call it?
