Advertisements

Advertisements use persuasion to influence the receiver. Key parts include: an image of the product (often with a related image), a short, memorable tagline, text (which may or may not be present), and the logo or monogram of the entity advertising.

Linguistic Variation

Language use differs for each speaker, even when expressing the same idea. This variation depends on age, cultural background, and origin. Three different linguistic varieties exist:

  • Diatopic Varieties: Characterize speakers belonging to a specific geographical area.
  • Diachronic Varieties: Identify speech features from a particular historical moment or generation.
  • Diastratic Varieties: Specify a particular social class or group.

The communicative situation influences language choice. Consider the register used with friends, family, or in scholarly settings.

Audio and Slogans

Slogans can be phrases without verbs or phrases with verbs.

Coordination and Juxtaposition

Sentences can be coordinated (using conjunctions like 'and'), subordinate (using conjunctions like 'because'), or juxtaposed.

Vincent Andrés Estellés

Born in Burjassot, Valencia, in 1924, Estellés's work shows influences of Ausias March, Jaume Roig, and Rois de Corella.

Early Works

His early works feature a deep sense of tragedy and a momentous tone. The figure of death is prominent, symbolized by the line "the key that opens all locks."

Later Works

From 1957, his work reflects the consequences of war: smuggling, hunger, fear, death, and the bitterness of experience. In 1975, he began publishing Mural del País Valencià, a much more cheerful work.

Style

Estellés incorporates everyday language into his poetic expression, sometimes using rude and obscene language, especially when referring to sex. This crudeness is balanced by his intention of denouncing established hypocrisy and by combining lyrical and emotive language with a joyful tone. He uses a variety of poetic structures and meters, drawing inspiration from Latin authors and the classical world. This allows him to subtly criticize everyday life in Valencia by hiding behind these classical figures.
