Survey responses to the Second Industrial System, including unionization,

the Populist Party, and Progressivism. Which do you consider Most

significant? Why?


The second industrial system was the period in the post civil War in which an extra layer of production began that focused on producing goods For other industries. Steel was very significant in this time, as were the Railroad systems. This new system caused Unionization. Most notably was the Pullman strike, where Pullman workers started to boycott Pullman and effectively Shut down the country’s railroad system after Pullman cut wages by 25% without Cutting the cost of rent. This combined with other efforts of workers to fight Against the poor working conditions, wages, and hours of the Second Industrial Union Eventually brought about the creation of more unions that helped create Reasonable benefits for workers. The Populist party consisted of radical Farmers who contested the presidential election and were mad at railroads Because of how they functioned as monopolies. The populist party responded to the Second Industrial System by proposing political reforms such as term limits, advocating For the elimination of subsidies to business, and supported silver. Progressives Are reformers who wanted to curve the worst excesses of second industrial Because it exploited works and for huge amounts of wealth. Notable Progressives Include Theodore Roosevelt who was a progressive republican, Woodrow Wilson who Was a progressive democrat, and Jane Adams who contributed to grassroot progressivism. In my opinion, unionization was the most significant because I believe it was The most effective of the three in changing the working world for the better.
