Good morning Claudia, today I will be talking about the movie JOKER
Because of the name and the movie I chose, why don’t we start with a joke. What do you get when you cross a mentally ill owner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?. Well you might not get this now but throughout my presentation you will understand what this joke means.
now i will tell you a little bit about the plot of the movie
THE PLOT
Arthur Fleck is a wannabe stand-up comic who suffers from many mental illnesses, including one which causes him to laugh uncontrollably when he is nervous, and this often gets him into bad situations. Arthur's mental health and the shortage of money causes almost all people in society to reject and look down upon him, even though all he wants is to be accepted by others and make people laugh of his jokes. After being brutally beaten by the society, and treated badly for government corruption, Arthur's life begins to spiral downward out-of-control into delusions, depression, violence, and anarchy until he eventually cannot handle his true self and transforms into Gotham's infamous Clown-Prince of Crime THE JOKER.
JOAQUIN PHOENIX
I personally believe that Joaquin Phoenix did a very good job as an actor in this movie, not only because he played the role of the evil clown or world famous joker very well but also because of the difficult physical work he had to do for his role of the joker and the great change of voice he had to do for the scenes when the joker had to laugh since he had to give it that effect of choking and that touch of madness in it.
THEMES
I would say that there are two main themes in this film.
The first and most notorious is the social order between sectors as you can see in the image we have Thomas Wayne symbolizing the rich side of the city and on the other hand Arthur representing the poor side of the city where you can see that it is darker and more deteriorated and with more crime.
Another theme that could be seen is the transformation that can be seen in our main character that starts with faith in society and that at some point would help them but slowly that faith is disappearing leaving where our man with faith was, someone totally different ,someone that only sees destruction and death around him.
WHAT MAKES THIS MOVIE SPECIAL
Aside its incredible environments that correspond very precisely to the plot of the story and the incredible effort of the actors to enter in a very precise way in their roles, what really makes this film special is the director. This film was directed by Todd Phillips born on December 20, 1970 in Brooklyn New York. Even though he didn't finish his film career he directed some of the best films of the last 15 years like the Hang Over saga, War Dogs and the most recent one, Joker. But what makes this film different from the others? Well Todd usually directed comedy films and this film which is darker and deeper is something you wouldn't look at from this director which makes it intriguing because it's out of his comfort zone
SCENE
I liked this scene very much because in it we can see all the aspects of the character and the film, another thing I liked was how Joaquin phoenix acted in this scene because we can see all the expressions that are vital to this scene as the anger of the character or the madness of killing someone live. And this is something very important because if you are a fan of the joker or batman movies you can see how well he played the role of the joker.
Well my presentation came to an end but now I ask you again, what happens if you cross a mentally ill owner with a society that treats him like trash?
Well let me tell you, you get a psychopath
