Impact of Brexit on British Society and Economy

After the referendum that made the British people decide about the future of their country, lots of things are going to change within and outside their frontiers.

The Brexit will damage their international relationships with European countries, closing trading routes and breaking historical bonds.

It may also be very harmful for thousands of Erasmus students that complete their studies in England.

In conclusion, the Brexit will break European economic and cultural stability.

But overall, one of the worst consequences will be the social impact on British society. After the agreement was signed, racist acts have grown exponentially towards foreigners living and working in the country.

Once the political bonds are broken, the other ties can also break.

These acts are mainly due to the crisis affecting England too.

Losing their jobs against people who are not from their country made English people react violently.

Impact of Internet and New Technologies

Internet and new technologies make life easier for us. Before the internet and new technologies existed, communication with people who were far away was difficult. In those times, people wrote letters.

This has not only improved communication but also the way of working. Today, most projects are done through the internet. When I was little, I looked for information in encyclopedias and books. It seems to me a very useful invention. What I use most of the internet are social networks and pages like Wikipedia to look for information. I think that new technologies make life easier and I like that.

Importance of Education

Education is fundamental for me: it is to have a better standard of living and a future with more and better opportunities, which all young people must have and take advantage of. In many countries, there are girls and boys who must work to attend school. The study helps us to stop ignorance, discrimination, corruption, exploitation, and unemployment. I also ask parents and teachers to help us cultivate our values, as many of them have been lost, both in private and public institutions. Mainly, in schools, because respect for teachers is no longer the same as before, nor the people we interact with every day. Education has evolved, but we need a lot to learn and do.

Challenges Faced by Immigrants

Living in another country isn't an easy thing. Many immigrants arrive in our country looking for a better standard of living, but when they arrive, they find a lot of difficulties. In the first place, immigrants are hired by employers to exploit them because they haven't the documents of nationality. In the second place, immigrants find a serious problem fitting in our society. Many citizens reject them because they are from another country. Therefore, there are immigrants that feel like leaving because we don't accept them. But immigrants not only find disadvantages in our country: Here, they live more worried because in this country there is less delinquency. Also, immigrants have human rights and more liberty. To sum up, we can see that immigrants come up with different ways of integrating into our society, predominating unfortunately the bad things.

Environmental Concerns

We have polluted the atmosphere, destroyed the forests, poisoned the rivers, and caused the extinction of species that we did not even know existed. We are aware that we must change our attitudes about consumption and pollution of natural resources by industrialized societies. We know that, despite scientific advances in agriculture, it is increasingly difficult to feed the world's growing population. For example:

  • Every day 50 to 100 species of animals and plants are extinguished when their habitat is destroyed.
  • The tropical forests are being excavated so fast that half can disappear in the next 40 years.
  • Uncontrolled fishing has reduced the fishing banks of almost all commercial species.
  • There is an increase in CO2 emissions caused by the greenhouse effect.

We must do something to stop this disaster that threatens not only our generation but the generations to come.
