About the Author
Jerome K. Jerome was born in 1859 and grew up in east London. When he was fourteen, he took a job selling railway tickets and later became a teacher. He then became an actor.
But he did not become well-known until 1889, when he wrote Three Men in a Boat.
In 1892, Jerome and some friends began a magazine.
During the First World War, Jerome worked as an ambulance driver in France, and after the war, he continued writing. He died in 1927.

Chapter Summaries of Three Men in a Boat
Chapter VII (Angry Harris Gets Soaked)
In this chapter, the group arrives at a campsite. George decides to sleep in a hotel, while the others camp outside. During the night, it starts to rain heavily, and the tent collapses. Harris becomes angry as he tries to fix the tent in the pouring rain. Eventually, he manages to get it somewhat stable, and they try to get some sleep. However, Jerome is awakened by something hitting his head—it's George!
Chapter VIII (George Begins to Work)
The group decides that George needs to start pulling his weight. He begins to work without complaint. As they travel down the river, George entertains them with a story about his experiences on a ship. They reach Penton Hook but haven't decided where to sleep for the night.
Chapter IX (Our First Night on the Boat)
Everyone is working hard except for Harris. He struggles to put up the canvas cover of the boat, and eventually, they all give up in frustration. George amuses them with another funny story, which reminds Harris of a similar experience.
Chapter X (The First Morning)
Jerome wakes up early and can't get back to sleep, except for Harris, who is still sound asleep. George tells a story about a similar morning he experienced. They decide to wake up Harris, and George contemplates throwing him in the river but thinks better of it as the water seems very cold.
Chapter XI (Canned Fruits and Vegetables)
The friends are enjoying a leisurely boat ride, reminiscing about past experiences. They stop for lunch at Monkey Island and decide to have a cold meal of canned food. However, they can't find a can opener. They try various methods to open the cans, including using a knife, scissors, and a piece of metal, but nothing seems to work. Frustrated, they search for a large rock to smash the cans open, but to no avail.
Chapter XII (Montmorency and the Cat)
Montmorency is walking along when he spots a cat. He chases after it, but the cat doesn't budge. Montmorency stops in his tracks, unsure of what to do next. The cat calmly asks Montmorency if he wants anything. Montmorency doesn't reply and walks away, feeling embarrassed.
