Administration as a Discipline
As a discipline, administration involves making decisions and is fundamentally about organizing, managing, controlling, evaluating, and coordinating. It is a social discipline composed of principles, techniques, and practices.

Efficiency and Effectiveness in Management
Efficiency refers to the optimal use of resources to achieve desired results. It is a highly valued quality in organizations because, in practice, all activities aim to achieve goals with limited resources (human, financial, technological, physical, knowledge, etc.) within complex and competitive environments.
Effectiveness is defined as "the fulfillment of objectives." It focuses on achieving the intended outcomes, regardless of the resources consumed.
The Administrative Process
The administrative process is a sequence of interconnected phases and stages essential for effective management. These phases include:
Planning
Planning involves selecting objectives, strategies, policies, programs, and procedures that can be applied to an entire company or a specific part of it. To plan means to outline or form a work plan. The planning phase covers the period between the current state of an institution and its desired future state.
Organization
Organization is about establishing or structuring elements, setting rules to ensure harmony and order, and defining the mechanisms of dependence that various parties must conform to.
Direction
Direction involves guiding or directing intentions and operations towards a determined purpose or objective.
Evaluation and Control
Evaluation and Control involves verifying the proper functioning of operations, ensuring everything has been done correctly, and measuring performance against objectives. This phase includes identifying negative deviations, making necessary resources available to correct errors, and expressing value judgments regarding overall performance.
Coordination
Coordination is integral to the entire administrative process. It is present in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating. Each phase requires an exercise of coordination to ensure seamless operation.
Through the effective execution of these phases, it can be determined whether a company has achieved success or failure in reaching its goals and business objectives.
The Value of Know-How
Know-how refers to the operational techniques and practical skills employed by an individual for the effective discharge of their duties. This valuable asset can be applied at various levels, from a senior officer to an entry-level worker.
Effective know-how, especially when demonstrated by those in higher hierarchical positions, fosters a culture of competence and respect. It represents an organized economic activity that combines labor, human energy, technological and financial efforts, material resources, and effective administration.
