  5. Corneal endothelium

Choroid

  1. Vascular layer (arteries and veins around conjunctiva lax with melanocytes)
  2. Choriocapillaris layer (capillary network in 1 flat)
  3. Bruch's membrane

Retina

Eyelids

(Outside to inside):

  1. Skin and dermis of TCL
  2. Bundles of striated muscle (orbicularis oculi muscle)
  3. Thickened set at the ends (eyelid plates with meibomian glands)
  4. Mucous layer (conjunctiva)

Glands: Moll (sweat), Meibomian and Zeis (sebaceous)

Inner Ear

Above the sensory epithelium of the macula are otoliths (calcium carbonate crystalline bodies on a gelatinous glycoprotein substance).

Female Reproductive System

Glands

Skene's Paraurethral Glands

Duct epithelium: Transitional. Gland: Pseudostratified columnar mucosal epithelium.

Greater Vestibular (Bartholin's) Glands

(Branched tubulo-alveolar)
Duct epithelium: Transitional or stratified squamous epithelium (hymen) distally, mucous secreting epithelium. Gland: Simple columnar mucous epithelium.

Minor Vestibular (Huguier's) Glands (Tubular)

Simple mucous epithelium. Metaplasia = Cysts

Ovarian Follicles

Primary Oocyte Follicles

  • Diplotene cell
  • Flat layer of follicle cells

Primary Follicle

  • Oocyte organelles and cytoplasm increase
  • Pellucida-granular membrane
  • Follicular cells
  • Stromal cell-theca layer formation

Secondary Oocyte Follicles

  • Antral follicular fluid accumulates
  • Granulosa cells
  • Theca layers increase in size

Graafian Follicle

  • Primary oocyte (diplotene) - Secondary oocyte (metaphase II)
  • Zona pellucida and corona radiata
  • Large antral follicle
  • Granulosa cells
  • Theca layers
  • Start of egg cell formation and radial zona pellucida and follicular fluid fertilization

Corpus Luteum (Yellow Body)

(Remains of the follicle)

  • Transient endocrine gland
  • Disintegration of granulosa and theca layers: input of blood and connective tissue
  • Granulosa-lutein cells: progesterone and relaxin
  • Theca-lutein cells: estradiol and progesterone
  • No fertilization

Corpus Albicans

  • Macrophages
  • Fertilization-proliferation to 6th month as hormone synthesis
