The Crucial Role of English Proficiency Today
In past years, many people could build a career with only basic English knowledge. However, things have changed, and now a high level of English is often required for any career or job. For example, in Spain, to pursue a career, one must pass a selectividad exam, and English is one of the required subjects. Therefore, if you don't speak English, it will be very difficult to establish a career.
Also, in Spain, students can obtain Becas Erasmus (Erasmus scholarships) to travel to another country and study their chosen field for a year. Knowing English also allows you to study or work in English-speaking countries like England, which is a very interesting country. Furthermore, having a career path may not be as beneficial without English proficiency, as knowledge of English is now required for almost any job. Consider a scenario where a foreign person visits a doctor; they might need a translator to communicate. This highlights the importance of knowing how to speak English for a future career.
Computers: Benefits and Drawbacks in Modern Life
Computers are now ubiquitous in modern society, presenting both advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly, computers can save us time by helping us perform complicated operations very quickly and with minimal errors. Secondly, they have significantly improved worldwide communications. Thanks to the Internet, email, and modern social networks, we can stay in touch with friends, even if they are far away. Moreover, we can communicate more cheaply, faster, and easier.
However, computers also present certain problems. While they have improved communications, they might also hinder face-to-face interaction. Some individuals prefer 'talking' to their computer rather than engaging with a 'real person.' Furthermore, this can lead to dependency on computers.
In short, while it's true that computers have made our lives easier and offer more advantages than disadvantages, I believe we must use them sensibly: we should control our computers, not let our computers control our lives.
