Triple-Threat Position
In the triple-threat position, the player is placed in an attack stance: feet apart in line with the shoulders, shooting hand forward, knees half-bent, body leaning forward, head up to maintain court vision; the ball is held between the waist and chest.
Shooting Fundamentals
Features of a Good Shot
- Softness: The ball is not launched at high speed to facilitate accuracy and prevent it from bouncing too far from the rim.
- Backspin: The ball has a backspin produced by the fingers.
- Trajectory: The ball's trajectory should be a parabola of average height.
Types of Shots
Layup (Tray Shot)
The layup is executed with the hand farthest from the defender. If near the rim, the palm faces up; if further away, it faces down to provide greater momentum.
Static One-Hand Shot
This shot is used for free throws, without opposition. It is an automated and repetitive gesture.
Suspension Shot (Jump Shot)
The suspension shot is performed from a triple-threat position with a defender nearby. It involves jumping into the air and releasing the ball at the peak of the jump height to avoid the defender.
Hook Shot
Its main feature is the significant protection it offers against the defense, as it is executed with the hand farthest from the defender. The movement finishes with a flick of the wrist, following the ball's trajectory.
Dunk (Mate)
The dunk is a spectacular way to score a basket. The player must possess sufficient jumping power and height to execute it.
Deceptive Movements (Rolls and Fakes)
Rolls are movements of deception used to get open or confuse the opponent.
Types of Fakes (Rolls)
- Shooting Fake: Involves making a move with the head and body as if to shoot. If the defense reacts by jumping or becoming unbalanced, the attacker can then penetrate to the basket for a shot.
- Passing Fake: Faking a pass to one side and then passing to another.
- Dribble Fake: With a defender close by and in a shooting position, dribble slightly towards the defender. When the defender reacts by backing off, the attacker takes the opportunity to return to a shooting position and launch.
- Reception Fake: Involves a sharp change in direction at the moment of receiving the ball.
- Defensive Fake: Movements made by defenders to create doubt among attackers and delay the opposing team's offense.
Basketball Tactics
Tactics refer to the set of attack and defense strategies players use to win the game.
Player Roles in Basketball
- Point Guard (Base): Primary role is in ball handling and passing. They bring the ball to the opposing court and often organize the offense.
- Shooting Guard (Escort): Can handle the ball like a point guard and are typically shorter than small forwards.
- Small Forward (Wing): Possess good technique and outside shooting ability, can dribble to the basket, and excel in fast breaks.
- Power Forward: Has good inside and outside shooting, is typically taller than small forwards, and assists significantly with rebounds.
- Center (Pivot): The tallest players, dominating rebounds and excelling at close-range shots.
