English Verb Tenses: Present, Past, and Future

Present simple

+S+Vinf+He dances

• Actions habituls o rutines.
• Fets generals o cientifics.
• Amb horaris I programs (The train leaves at 9 o'clock).

Adv. Frequency: always, once, every, in the parts of day, at time/at night on days, how often?

Present continuous

+S+am/is/are+Ving He dancing

• Dir allo que esta passant en el moment que es parla.
• Expresar accions prolongades que pasen en un present mes ampli.
• Expresar q farem en un futur proper en tota seguritat pq eu em fixat.

At the moment, at present, today, now, right now, this, these. Future: soon, later, tomorrow, this, next.

Past simple

+S+V2/+ed He danced

• Past actions which happened at a specific time.
• Accions consecutives del pasado.
• Descriure com era algo en el pasado.
• Una accio curta va pasar cuan una mes llarga estaba en proces.

Yesterday, last, ago, in date, when, then.

Past continuous

+S+was(he,she,it)/were+Ving He was dancing

• Accio incomplete en un moment concret del pasado.
• Accio incomplete interrumpida per altra(llarga).
• Two Incomplete actions In progress at the same time in the past.

When, and, while, as, Last, at.

Present perfect

+S+have/has+V3/+ed He has danced

• Experiences.
• Actions in the past which have consequences In the present.
• Actions beginning in the past and still continuing in the present.
• Actions empezaron in the past and just finished.

Ever, never, yet, just, already, recently, lately, how long, since, for.

Present perfect continuous

+S+have/has+been+Ving He has been dancing

• Actions which started in the past and are going on at the moment (to emphasize the duration).
• Actions recently completed which have an obvious result.
• For, since, how long, all.

Past perfect

+S+had+V3/+ed He had danced

• A past action which happened before another one also in the past.
• Already, by the time, after, before, until, never, just.

Past perfect continuous

+S+had+been+Ving He had been dancing

• Algo que habíamos estado hacienda(proceso)cuando otra accion lo interrumpio.
• For hours, since, all, when, until, before.

Future simple

S+will+VInf He will dance

• Prediction (no evidence).
• Spontaneous decisions, mentre se parla.
• Promises, an offer, request, speculation.
• Timetable (present simple).

This, later, soon, next, at times, in an hour, in a few, tomorrow, on dates, in the future.

Going to

+S+am/is/are+going to+Vlnf He IS going to dance

• Predictions (with evidence).
• Intentions and plans de un future proper.
• Algo q va a pasar pq hay indicios.

Future continuous

+S+will+be+Ving He will be dancing

• An action which will be taking place at a certain time in the future.
• To emphasise the duration of an action In the future.
• At this time, on days, in the next decades.

Future perfect

+S+will+have+V3/+ed He will have danced

• Future actions which will be completed at a specific time in the future.
• By this time, by time, by then, by months, in two months.
